Authors AND ai
There’s a lot of drama about AI and whether it will replace creative people, especially authors.
I’ll go ahead and be upfront about my opinions on AI: I am not a fan of AI.
I do realize that AI is used in many aspects of our lives today and that we can’t avoid it. I know this. But I am not a fan of authors using it to write. Why? In my opinion, it can make authors lazy. If people can take the path of least resistance, they will.
The debate rages and we can already see the onslaught of those who are abusing the Ai tool to throw crap out there at breakneck speed (as if they haven’t been doing this already. It’s just faster and more of it now). Still, my concern for legitimate authors is that relying on this tool to be your creative brain and cause creative atrophy. This is just my own theory. Feel free to ignore it if you don’t agree.
I see no issue in using AI to help you market. In fact, I think that is a smart move for any author, but I would caution authors about using it to actually plot out and write your stories. I believe that creative atrophy can be a real issue. If something else is always helping you come up with ideas or write out your stories your own creative muscles will become weak which may affect the quality of your work in the long run.
Just my own musings. I’m sure I will have more to say on this in the future. I’m going through my second editing pass right now and getting ready for the third editing pass and this issue has been coming up in the writing podcasts I’m listening to. If you want ideas for stories, for how to write, just read more. read your favorite authors, read your favorite poets, write down ideas and turns of phrases that you love and make them your own. Ai is not needed for helping you to write your book. Your own brain power is. The brain is a muscle and like with any muscle, disuse causes it to atrophy. Write your books on your own steam, I say! Happy writing!
